Michaela and Shane’s Wedding – Cottesloe Civic Gardens

I absolutely LOVE to work with couples who aren’t afraid to show their personalities and incorporate cultural traditions in their wedding ceremony and reception! Michaela is German, and a lot of her friends and family members have prepared some typical games and activities. Even though I lived in Germany for over 10 years, I was really young and have only been to two weddings, so it was amazing to learn a bit more about the German wedding traditions!

Just after the ceremony, Michaela and Shane were presented with a white sheet with a heart drawn on it (which was prepared by their friends earlier).  The sheet was held in front of them and they had to cut the heart out in order to pass.  The cutting with really tiny scissors suppose to symbolise overcoming the first challenge in their new marriage. Once the heart is cut out, Shane had to carry his new wife through the heart. Another friend of Michaela has given them white balloons with a personal message attached. These turned out to be a great prop for our location shoot and afterwards Michaela and Shane released them into the air.  This tradition is about the newly weds starting their journey together and letting go of the past. And even at the reception they incorporated few traditions, such as guests holding a blanket above the bride and groom while their first dance.

Thanks Michaela and Shane for letting me be a part of your big day, I certainly enjoyed it a lot!
